Dr Gill Frigerio opens the 2025 NICEC AGM

NICEC marked its 50th anniversary with a special event in Birmingham on Monday, September 22nd. After an AGM, the day centred on our network meeting titled, "Skills & Growth: The Role of Career Development Work," which explored the central role that career development plays in supporting the economy by helping to meet the ever-changing skills needs of the labour market. The meeting was followed by a drinks reception to celebrate the organization's 50-year milestone.

The network meeting began with a welcome and introduction from NICEC Chair, Gill Frigerio, and an introduction to the panel from Professor Tristram Hooley. The panel, which included Stephen Isherwood from the Institute of Student Employers, Claudia Jaksch from Policy Connect, John Hall from the West Midlands Combined Authority, and Sandra Oribine from Skills Development Scotland, engaged in a lively debate about the balance and tension between supporting both individuals and the wider economy. A recorded presentation by Dr. Chris Percy, a NICEC Fellow and co-founder of CareerChat UK, was also part of the meeting.

After the panel and a summary of discussions, NICEC celebrated its achievements with a celebratory drinks reception where we welcomed members and fellows past and present.
