Originally trained as a careers adviser (local authority officer then) and have spent the last twenty years or so, in higher education as teacher and/or researcher. My current role is Director of Research at the Higher Education Careers Services Unit (HECSU) which is the educational charity behind Graduate Prospects. I am a member of the HEFCE's HE Public Information Steering Group which oversees the NSS, Unistats and the Key Information Set initiative. I also work closely with UniversitiesUK via contribution to the Education, Business and Industry Network; with the NUS, through supporting the Student Skills Awards. Academic roles in HE include leadership of PGCE (Further and Higher Education) programmes, an MA in Post-compulsory education and training and continuing professional updating in careers education and guidance for teachers in schools. Recent projects have involved investigating employability provision in higher education institutions overseas (with igraduate) and the transition from doctoral student to working as a researcher in HE (on behalf of Vitae). Current projects include working with HEFCE to explore how to promote the Longitudinal Destinations of Leavers from Higher Education (LDLHE findings, with Council for Industry and Higher Education visiting Bucharest on behalf of the British Council to contribute to a conference on employability; supporting Graduate Prospects in the development of the PIPS (Prospects Integration Project system) to deliver on line graduate employment & training information and advice .... and then there are the Futuretrack studies......the biggest and best longitudinal studies of graduate career development ever, being conducted by the universities of Warwick and Birkbeck ….please see www.hecsu.ac.uk
