Allister McGowan

Allister McGowan is a NICEC Fellow and has chaired the Fellowship since 2007. He is an independent consultant with a particular interest in the impact of policy upon practice and has worked upon governance, quality and management issues advising local authority Children and Young People’s services, central government and careers and Connexions companies.

Allister was Chief Executive of both Hertfordshire Careers services and the Careers Management Group. He is a Past President (1995-96) of the Institute of Career Guidance and served on the Institute’s Board and Council. He played a leading role in the establishment of the trade association, Careers England, and currently chairs the Board. He is an external examiner of the University of Ulster’s Diploma in Career Guidance course and was an external examiner of careers and Connexions courses at Nottingham Trent University for ten years. He chaired the Board of Governors of the College of Guidance Studies through its merger with Canterbury Christ Church University.
